SDG 7.1.1 - Electricity access
Electricity access in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) has increased from 38.26% in 2014, to 51.43% in 2022, however the absolute number of people without access to electricity fell only marginally, from 606 million in 2014, to 588 million in 2022.

SDG 7.1.2 - Clean cooking
Results show that Africans using clean cooking fuels and technologies increased from 28.8% in 2014, to 33.6% in 2022, whilst the absolute number of people using polluting fuels and technology has increased from 843 million to 944 million.

SDG 7.2 - Renewable energy
Leaving aside the burning of biomass using traditional methods, the share of ‘modern renewables’, such as solar and wind power, along with modern biomass technologies in Africa’s energy mix is only 10%. Whilst there is real progress in the electricity sector, other sectors do not yet show a significant share of renewable energy.

SDG 7.3 - Energy efficiency
Africa lags behind the rest of the world in terms of both its level of energy intensity and the rate at which it is changing. Massive improvement in the financing of energy efficiency, combined with capacity-building and support with establishing adequate policies is now urgently needed.
